Judging Criteria
- Compelling Concept
The experience is different from what's currently on Meta Horizon Store or previous hackathons and best exemplifies a successful standalone app. We're looking for concepts that have the potential to attract, engage, and retain a meaningful number of users on Quest.
- Important Note: In San Francisco, teams can submit an existing project in the “Best Upgrade to an Existing Project” track. Entries must demonstrate significant upgrade or new features developed during the hackathon.
- Quality / Implementation
The experience should be well executed, with a polished, high-quality user experience. It must perform reliably on Meta Quest. The overall presentation, including the text description, slides, images, and video quality should meet the submission requirements.
- Category Specific Capabilities Criteria
- Mixed and Virtual Reality: The experience should be only possible in Virtual or Mixed Reality, leveraging Meta XR SDKs on Quest. It should demonstrate compelling, differentiated experiences that go beyond standard XR apps.
- AI with Camera Access: The experience should meaningfully demonstrate the advantages of integrating Context-Aware AI with Passthrough Camera Access on Meta Quest, enabling applications that adapt to the user’s environment and go beyond generative AI.
- Best Implementation of Hand Tracking: The experience should leverage hand tracking in innovative ways, using microgestures, hand poses, and fluid motions to create natural, intuitive, and immersive interactions in XR.
- Best Immersive Entertainment Experience: The experience should engage users in viewing or spectating environment, combining presence, visuals, sound, and interaction to enhance the experience.
- Horizon Worlds (only at Barcelona): The experience should showcase a new, creative and engaging world built in Horizon Worlds, focused on player engagement encouraging progression, social interaction, and community building. It should be optimized for mobile play and supported across devices.
- Best Upgrade to an Existing Project (only at San Francisco): The experience should build upon an existing project and demonstrate significant new features or improvements. Submissions must show clear innovation and enhancements that meaningfully extend the project.
